About Us

Baskin Engineering, Mechanical Engineers, Inc. (BME) is a full service consulting mechanical engineering firm specializing in HVAC and Plumbing systems design, energy modeling, building commissioning, and green building design.

Baskin Mechanical Engineers is located in the historical J. M. Menend Building at 175 Fulton Street in Fresno California, with a second office located at 5500 Ming Avenue in Bakersfield, CA.

Mark Baskin, P.E., LEED AP
Mark is an energetic and passionate design professional with over thirty years’ experience in the HVAC and engineering profession. Mark believes in getting the essentials absolutely correct; proper zoning, energy modeling, and equipment selection. These components are targeted early in the project then efficiently communicated to other design professionals to quickly establish system type, structural loads, electrical loads, and construction budgets.

Mark has a strong background in sustainable design with LEED certified projects, High Performance Incentive school projects, Cal-Green projects, and Energy Star Rated Homes. See “Projects” tab for more detail on sustainable design projects.

Mike Mundschau, P.E.
Mike obtained his Mechanical Engineering degree from CSU, Fresno following a twenty year career as a HVAC installer, technician, controls specialist, trouble shooter, and a journeyman sheet metal mechanic. Mike is a level headed design professional that has a solid understanding of the real world that exists outside the engineering office and applies those principals in his designs. Mike has a great eye for recognizing and solving field problems based on his decades of experience in the HVAC industry.

Randy Banks, CPD
Randy Banks, along with Mark Baskin, created a mechanical engineering business in January 1992 that over time morphed into Baskin Mechanical Engineers. Randy stepped down from ownership in 2008 and moved to Kentucky to start a lamb operation. Equipped with a full size scanner, a workstation, and an email account, Randy continues to work part time as a plumbing designer and project coordinator. With years of general contracting experience and numerous Habitat for Humanity builds to his credit, Randy applies this field knowledge and common sense to his design work.

Michael Thomas
Michael has a wealth of field experience, is an excellent communicator, and approaches his work with precision and detail. His duties include Building Commissioning, construction observation, and systems analysis & problem solving.

Michael worked for the City of Bakersfield Public Works Department for thirty-four years a HVAC technician, with twenty-six years as the lead mechanical technician, and twenty years as the lead digital automation technician. Michael’s hands on experience allows him to be a credible and qualified person to oversee the start-up and commissioning of our client’s projects.

Brandon Sanchez
Brandon is our go-to guy for all things involving project coordination and production. Brandon possesses an Associates in Computer Aided Drafting & Design from Fresno City College and has working knowledge in both AutoCAD and REVIT. Previous work experience includes State Center Community College Maintenance and Operations Department. Duties included: In charge of District Wide Building Blue Prints & Maintenance Building Archives, Assisted Fire Network Tech., Campus Police Department, & Health & Safety Department with projects involving Campus Buildings. Brandon has an amazing work ethic that shows in all that he does.

Patrick McCracken
Patrick has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from CSU, Fresno. Patrick is responsible for plumbing design and production, with proficiency in both AutoCAD and REVIT. Patrick is currently enrolled in the “Advanced Plumbing System Design” program offered by UCLA University Extension Program. Patrick has a solid foundation with field construction experience to back up his engineering degree.
